Narvik and Ofotfjord are known as an eldorado for wreck divers and a popular diving spot for scuba divers from around the world. Anyone wishing to dive must register with the Narvik Harbour board and sign a declaration regarding diving to the wrecks. Some wrecks are forbidden to dive because they are preserved as a historic site or have not been cleared of ammunition. In 2014 the Norwegian government removed the ban on diving in and around the two Norwegian ships Norge and Eidsvold. It remains forbidden to remove anything that lies in and around the wrecks.
