Cozumel lies within the Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park and is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second largest coral reef system in the world. All divers must be accompanied by certified park guides, and a park entrance fee of $3-5 USD per person per day is typically included in the dive package cost. From 1 January 2025 the daily fee to dive in the park rose by 100% to 218.32 pesos per person. Diving is best from November to March, with May to September also good. Green turtles, hawksbill turtles and loggerhead turtles are resident. Bull sharks are seen from November to March, and spotted eagle rays from December to March.
