The Galápagos Marine Reserve was declared part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 and is considered one of the most reliable big-animal dive sites in the world. The National Park entrance fee is US$200 and the Transit Control Card is US$20. Most boats include at least two Galápagos National Park certified dive guides, and Darwin Island has no day-trip option, reachable only by liveaboard. Diving is best from July to November, with December to June also good. Galápagos sea lions, Galápagos sharks, ocean sunfish and oceanic manta rays are resident. Scalloped hammerhead sharks are seen from June to November, and whale sharks from July to October.
