Um El Faroud was a Libyan oil tanker built in 1969, sunk in 1998 after a gas explosion during maintenance work. The wreck, 110 metres long, lies near Valletta, Malta, in the Mediterranean Sea. It can be reached from shore or by boat, at depths between 15 and 36 metres. Diving here is rated for advanced divers. It is often cited as a top wreck dive in Malta. Big reef fish, cephalopods, corals and fans, and moray eels are resident, with frogfish, scorpionfish, nudibranchs and schooling fish occasionally seen.
